The Magical Force of Teamwork
staying together is progress,
and working together is success."
Teamwork is so special because it involves everyone like nothing else. Teamwork helps me to achieve goals that I once thought was impossible. In order to get though many challenges we used teamwork or we would of not been able to succeed. Half my grade stood strong with me, we where in the middle of heaving Patrick up a thirteen foot wall, it looked like a daunting task, under the shade of a cluster of lofty white pines, twenty-four hours into our trip to Camp Caribou. "three, two, one. Come on, he is almost up" I gruel to my teammates and my friends. Our councilor stands on the dirt caked, pine toped, nut-brown earth urging us with feedback and encouragement. I believe that there is no obstacle in the world that teamwork cannot overcome and succeed. I learned an important lesson that day, I learned that I should not say the words "I don't need any help" because in reality, even if I think I may not need it, I could certainly use it. I also learned how nice it is to have someone come up too me and say "would you like any help". I believe that when someone says those magical words I can think over what I need help on and get through it. In my view, teamwork is all about picking someone up when they fall and making sure one is there to help their teammates when others are having a bad day. In the end teamwork will find a way.
Perseverance is crucial in this world, if great thinkers decided to quit half way through they would not of achieved the brilliant thoughts and ideas they created. I have quit too many times and regretted it dearly; I desired that I had dug in and kept on pushing through. When I doubted my abilities, I found that as long as I persevered through times of doubt I would find strength and succeed. Climbing up the twenty foot telephone pole, loyally called the pamper pole, I saw all the little faces of my grade nine classmates eerily staring up at my trembling figure. I realized I could not look down, but I could look forward through the trees to greenest lawns one could see. I wanted to go back down for I was shaking, scared and I wanted to quit, but thanks to others encouraging me and picking me up I knew I could not quit. Slowly I mounted the top of the pole shaking under my weight, I also shook like there was some pressure on top of me. Maybe there was some pressure on me, maybe this was a form retribution for the other times I had turned back, maybe this time it was different, maybe this time it was different because I had twenty-three classmates backing me up, that is why this time I did it. Perseverance unites teams, wins games and ultimately brings everyone closer. Can one imagine a world without perseverance, I for one cannot because we would be in such a strange place and nothing would be the same. Perseverance is behind the scenes action that makes good people great.
The ability to make someone laugh or even smile is a wonderful thing. When someone is feeling poorly I love that people pick them up and make their day through laughter and enjoyment. I believe that fun is crucial to having healthy friendships and communities. Having fun is so crucial because it eases tension if some exists and it brings people closer together through experiences. At Camp Caribou with the cool shade on our backs I could feel tension among us as we encountered issues and tried to resolve them so I tried to joke around a bit to lighten the mood in order to come together. I know the effect of making someone laugh because in times at the Camp I had been very nervous climbing up the different high ropes and just by joking around with a friend I forgot all of my nervousness and I relaxed. This is a wonderful feeling because so many times before I have been thinking about something making me anxious or agitated. When someone made me laugh all of the sudden my brain forgets all the issues and I am in a very positive mindset. I try to always remind myself to be sensitive to others because I do not know whats going on in their lives, but at the same time try and bring people together to have fun.
When I reflect about all the moments of teamwork, perseverance, and fun it brings a smile to my face. They are all positive memories especially when all three happened at same circumstance, of course these themes go hand in hand so it is not unusual for these three to happen. I believe the reason why the trip my grade took to Camp Caribou was a success was because everyone at a least one point felt these three themes come together and smile came to their face. Perseverance for example, is a great characteristic or theme, but it is truly outstanding when it is combined with teamwork and fun. In the end when moments, memories and people are all included everyone wins and that is what our trip to Camp Caribou was all about.
